After taking a close look at the advice regarding my website and more specifically the individual pages, here are the individual comments about my website and what I did with them.
The first piece of advice that was related to the whole website that was being asked is if I could state the purpose of the website directly onto the site. While I do agree that explaining to the audience what the purpose is of the website is important the reason why I do not have that element on my site because quite frankly I do not have a set purpose yet. Maybe the purpose of my website is to be a blog or maybe in due time I might use it for my own business or apart of the business I am apart of however there is no purpose as of now.
The next piece of advice connected to the overall website was add more designs of stuff that I like onto the website. So, I incorporated a blue background to make all the content of all the pages pop. Also, I went with a blue background because blue is my favorite color. In addition, I added a photo essay which was photographs of a day in the life of myself at the University of Hartford.
The next set of advice was focused on each individual page: what should I add and what I should remove. Regarding to the first page of the website the advice was there was too much white on the page and there is too much space between the content of the page and the hyperlinks on the bottom. After reflecting on this comment, the way I responded was by removing the excess amount of white by adding a blue background. As for the space between the content and the bottom of the page, because it was a template I was not able to move the links closer to the rest of the content. On the page of the About Me the advice was to add a color whether its blue or yellow to continue with the theme of that smiles feel. The way I solved that problem was I had a shade of blue which was one of the suggested colors to use for the background. As the evaluator moved on to the infographic resume page, the evaluator had a handful of suggestions. The first idea was to have the background color be purple and while I agree there should be color to the background I do not believe purple is the right answer. Ultimately due to the inability to have a variety of colors as the background I kept the original shade of blue that I chose all the way through the website. The next piece of advice for this page is because half of the images on that page is black and white, the images of skills and experiences should also be in black and white. While I normally would agree that consistency is key to well thought out page, I believe that the contrast between the skills and experiences to the vales and education adds a lot of meaning as it emphasizes the dual lifestyle endure. The third comment was to remove the skill of excel because it is only 2 out of 5 stars. While 2 out of 5 stars does not express strong suit, I think having that trait should remain as it highlights that it is a skill that I like doing and will continue to improve on as the years pass. The next page’s advice was that it was boring and redundant despite acknowledging the inspiration factor. While I agree it is not the most flashy or interesting page to look at it is important to acknowledge the creator and the inspiration. For the graphics inspiration page, even though there was no critiques the evaluator highlights that the graphics were extremely engaging due to the wide range of colors. When it came to the examples of podcasts the evaluator makes an extremely impactful comment and that was that if required to leave the site to listen, people could stop reading. While I completely understand there were times that was out of my control since the embedding function would not work which means people will unfortunately have to go to another site to listen. In regards, to my own podcast the advice was that for most of the podcast I was a bit quiet and so a microphone or a different site could have aided the audio quality. Even though, I am not going to go back to fix the audio to the first episode if I were to do another episode I would take that into account. Furthermore, I am genuinely surprised that the audio was that low considering I tend to speak loudly. The last remaining critique was in relation to the inspiration to the photo essays which the point was to add background color and so I made the background blue. The final remarks on my website were all positive highlighting the color, the well written descriptions and the fact that the rest of the content was easy to access as everything was on the website itself. There are several techniques that I use to keep or gain the attention of the audience such as using bright and bold colors throughout the website, making most of the content relatable to the audience and kept it neat and organized. On the title page I kept it quick to the point with short, bold phrases that will tempt the audience to keep on looking. On the about me page the focal point was to connect with the reader on a personal level highlighting family, volunteering and other elements that were important to me that could relate to the audience. On the graphic resume page, I wanted to highlight that I can really do a lot in many different settings and that with my core values I could be key contributor to whatever I do in life. For the podcast page, I wanted to share something that I am passionate about by both visually displaying the interest through the cover of the podcast while also talking about the topic. When it came down to the moments of time photo essay my focal point was connecting to incoming students, current students and former students at all universities what is it like to be a student at the University of Hartford. In regard to the first photo essay, the photos that were taken were items that many people across the globe have. The final pages were the inspiration of the entire website and while they are not the most interesting element of the website it is important to recognize the people who gave me the inspiration to do what I did to make the website as intriguing as possible. Ultimately, the next step is continuing to produce content that is relatable to the audience whether through videos, photos or words. The best parts of my website is the moments in time photo essay and the infographic resume. Some areas of growth are the about me page as I believe I could make it flow smoother and look more presentable. In the most recent assignment of the video montage there were a lot of decisions to be made when constructing such project. The first major decision was what I was going to take videos of. My thought process was what can I take videos of that have not been made as my content for another one of my assignments. Another element I was thinking of was something that was easy to access both in a level of within a certain parameter and that wouldn’t be hard to take a video of. The third element that made me think was figuring out something that would not cause me to receive a permit or permission from others. So, what I ended up with going with was nature which is all around me not just on campus but also off campus which was the Elizabeth Park. After making the decision to do my video all about nature while I knew that was going to be easy to get nature pictures on campus I had to figure out exactly how and when I will get to go to Elizabeth park. Following several days of poor weather and getting through final exams I finally was able to not only go to Elizabeth Park but also take videos on campus. Once I arrived at the park I evaluated my surroundings trying to find the best spots to take those videos. After taking in the scenery, I began taking videos of all forms of nature ponds, streams, flowers, trees, bushes, geese and ducks. Following this beautiful process, I began putting the video together starting with evaluating all the videos. There were several criteria when choosing the videos: if the video was of animals do people like that animal, if it’s of scenery does it contain a lot of nature, and the final criteria does the video have people in them. After choosing my videos a chose the perfect song for the video which was about nature. Finally, when all of those steps were finished I recorded myself giving a tour of the nature in the greater Hartford community. The final major assignment was the multimedia page. For this page all the decision making was extremely easy. The first decision that I made was deciding to write about the amazing Uhart Hillel center and community. The next big decisions was deciding to use photos of the center and photos of the incredible community. The final decisions were choosing the quotes, selecting the hyperlinks and choosing the video to use. When reading the quotes all of them were no brainers. The reason why I chose the hyperlinks that I chose is because each one of them are help benefiting University of Hartford Hillel. Finally, the reason why I chose the video that I chose is because it truly exemplifies how amazing the community is and how important the Zachs Hillel Center is to everyone.
